The Andes, an unexplored and rugged territory, is where viticulture in Chile took its first revolutionary steps in producing high quality wine and, in 1994 when the Maipo Valley became a Chilean appellation of origin, it became what we know today as the heart of the Chilean wine industry.
In the early 2000’s, Marchese Piero Antinori was captivated by the Haras de Pirque estate, which at that time was an impressive thoroughbred stud farm nestled in the Andes Mountain range. As the finest wines are crafted in terroirs with distinctive elements and natural beauty, likewise a good winemaker and his vineyard complement each other, ultimately expressing perfect harmony in each wine.
The Antinori family’s adventure in Chile began over 20 years ago on the Haras de Pirque estate and their first harvest was forthcoming. The 2001 vintage produced Albis, a wine dedicated to Piero Antinori’s eldest daughter, Albiera. The name of this wine celebrates the dawn of a new day with an elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère
“We fell in love with the area, with this winery and with the fact that everything was in harmony: a
horseshoe vineyard, a horseshoe winery. After all, we believe that great wines are born in beautiful places,
and this was a beautiful place.”
